I met Manny and Alexis earlier this summer when Manny was the best man in Richard and Fernanda’s wedding. Towards the end of the night he pulled me aside to let me know that he planned to propose to his girlfriend Alexis later on in the year, and if I would photograph it. I loved the idea and as it got closer and he revealed his elaborate plans for a romantic evening I began to realize what a truly special event I was to be a part of.
When the night came, I hid with the rest of the couple’s close family in a dark corner of Manny’s parent’s backyard. I was especially nervous as he took her blindfold off because I thought for sure she would turn around and catch us all standing there…but she didn’t! He then sat her down and played a movie he made full of photos and memories from their time together. As the movie came to an end he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Then it was our time to reveal ourselves and congratulate the two…which I think surprised her even more! It was really sweet to see Alexis with her younger sisters as they crowded around her with excitement and all the parents sharing hugs and tears. Manny and Alexis, thanks for having me be a part of such a wonderfully intimate evening. I can’t wait for the wedding! enjoy.
